High Wind Warning for Sebastopol and west county

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Sebastopol and west county to the coast from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. Expect sustained southerly winds from 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50-60 mph, locally to 70 mph. Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Gusty winds will also make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles or those pulling trailers.
Sebastopol Fire Chief Bill Braga has sent out the following warning: “The wind is forecasted throughout the evening and into the early hours of Wednesday. Wind gust projected to be from 40-70 mph that could upend restaurants outdoor tents and canopy’s. It is suggested that they are either taken down (the small ones) or heavily secure the larger ones.”
In private home, yard furniture and patio umbrellas should also be secured
The weather service suggests that “People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive. Charge up cell phones and prepare for possible power outages.”
