Feeling the Bernie Meme in Sebastopol

Bernie on occupy bench

We asked ourselves where Bernie Sanders would most likely take a seat in Sebastopol, and decided it was the Occupy Bench in the downtown plaza, seen here with its creators Jim Wheaton and Steve Pierce, though Bernie seems a bit overdressed for the balmy Sebastopol weather. Bernie Sanders visited Sebastopol yesterday — or at least his meme did.  Several local businesses and individuals seemed to be feeling the Bern as Bernie meme mania swept the country. What this curious craze obscures is the news is that Bernie Sanders is now the chair of the Congressional Budget Committee, a powerful role for the country’s most famous self-professed Democratic Socialist.  Whatever the future brings, one thing is clear: folks feel comfortable enough with Bernie to invite him to have a seat on their garden benches, at their kitchen tables and just about everywhere else.

Here’s where he showed up around Sebastopol:

He visited the Fredricks Road Little Free Library:

And then headed over to California Sister in the Barlow.

“I just love Bernie’s tenacity, and his posture in this meme to me represents what we’re all feeling – we’ve been through a lot, and we’re all still here for it,” said California Sister co-owner Nichole Skalski.

Bernie continued his tour of Sebastopol at Boho Bungalow in downtown:

Then he stopped in for a pint at Seismic Brewing.

He headed south to visit Sheri Fox at her place in Bloomfield:

Then dropped by Hillcrest Middle School on Bloomfield Road:

Bernie was spotted in Mike Duffy’s horse pasture:

Then it was onto the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation:

Finally, he stopped by to pose outside of the Sebastopol Center for the Arts.
