Captain Mike Elson promoted to assistant fire chief

The Sebastopol Fire Department is pleased to announce that Fire Captain Mike Elson has been promoted to Assistant Fire Chief.

Mike’s Fire Service Career started back in 1983 when he joined the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety as a Volunteer Firefighter. In 1985, Mike joined the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District as a Firefighter/EMT, and quickly was promoted to Captain, District Training Officer, and eventually Battalion Chief. Mike joined the Sebastopol Fire Department in 1990 (31 years this month), and soon was promoted to Captain and Training Officer. Mike, with a lateral Fire Captain position, joined the Windsor Fire Protection District, known today as the Sonoma County Fire District. Mike currently serves as a Battalion Chief, Fire Investigator, Fire Instructor, and Strike Team Leader.

Mike has an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science, Bachelors of Science Degree in Fire Administration, and numerous Certificates of Completion, including FSTEP/CFSTES Instructor through California State Fire Training. Mike also obtained his California State Fire Marshal Fire Officer Certification in 1997 and in 2019 completed his California State Fire Marshal’s Fire Chiefs Certification.
