Solar Consultant

An established solar company in Sebastopol is seeking a solar consultant to develop relationships with prospective customers, lead them through the sales process, and ensure high levels of satisfaction. This staff member is an integral part of the business and reports to the Sales and Marketing Manager.



  • Convert leads to signed contracts, meeting individual and company-wide goals
  • Maintain expert working knowledge of the residential solar industry, including products, utility rates, incentive programs and trends
  • Develop and nurture relationships with prospective and existing customers, serve as the primary point of contact throughout the sales process
  • Respond to new inquiries; gather information from and pre-qualify prospective customers
  • Perform site visits to take photos, measure roofs, and assess existing electrical systems
  • Work with utilities and customers to gather energy consumption data, use appropriate design tools to determine preliminary array and inverter size
  • Use Excel-based estimating tool to generate accurate and detailed proposals
  • Review proposals and contracts with Sales Manager prior to presenting to customers
  • Review proposals and follow up with customers, close sales and execute contracts
  • Hand off signed contracts to the Operations team with detailed, thorough project information
  • Conduct post-installation customer Orientations
  • After project completion, send Customer Satisfaction Surveys and Thank You cards
  • Update and maintain Customer Tracking workbook throughout the sales process
  • Assist with marketing projects as needed
  • Attend daily sales meeting with sales team


  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically with the public, customers, and colleagues
  • Write and submit Daily Activity Reports each workday
  • Keep a clean, organized, and welcoming office space
  • Perform assigned tasks willingly and on time
  • Comply with all Solar Works policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Follow all work systems and procedures, and participate in their development and refinement


  • Demonstrated ability to close sales and provide excellent customer support
  • Strong solar knowledge and experience
  • Computer skills, e.g., proficiency in Excel, Word, Google applications
  • General office experience
  • Mac OSX, a plus
  • Drivers license and clean driving record

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to reach, bend, lift up to 20 lbs, use computer or drive for several hours at a time
  • Able to climb up and down ladders safely — not afraid of heights
  • No dependence on alcohol or other drugs
  • Non-smoker

Compensation: Competitive within the solar industry, commensurate with experience
